Daily Trip Report - July 25, 2003 Jill
Wechsler - Met with
Ilaz Ramajli upon the suggestion of Ms. Osmani from the Chamber of Advocates.
We spoke about the structure of his law firm (basically, there are two
partners, and a group of about 15 others who do research for foreign clients).
We also spoke about the challenges that lawyers in Kosovo face, and the
challenges that new businesses face. He gave me some materials about the
organization of his firm and about a project the group has worked on. Met with
Bejtush Isufi from the International Legal and Commercial Office, upon
the suggestion of Beth Miller. We spoke about Mr. Isufi's efforts to find
a foreign partner to work with and his goal of offering legal and accounting
services under one roof. We also spoke about how he got his office started
and about his perceptions of the legal environment in Kosovo. Spent some
time trying to turn in the NGO registration forms. I went to the Ministry
of Trade and Industry first, but they said that they only register for-profit
businesses there. So they wrote an address down for me to give to a taxi
driver, and I ended up at the KTA. Someone at the KTA referred me to another
office, so I will try to turn the forms in there on Monday. Then I met
Jehona for ice cream at the Grand Hotel. We talked for a while, and now
here I am at the Internet cafe again. |
