Studenti
The Studenti is the student-run magazine at the University of Prishtina
in Kosovo. It was first established in 1993 and ran until 1997 after
which it was discontinued. The Studenti has since been brought back
and has published its second issue of the year. The Kosovo Law Center
(KLC) funds production of the magazine and it is sold to students at
.50 Euro.
The magazine is very popular among students at the university. Six hundred
copies were produced for the most recent publication and all were sold
within fifty days.

Project Ideas
1.
Advertising
Issue: Can the student magazine be sustained by the solicitation of
local businesses to pay for advertisement space?
Problems: Local businesses in Kosovo probably survive best by word-of-mouth
advertisements. The business owners might not feel that they need to
advertise. Also, it is likely that business owners do not have extra
money to spend on things extraneous to the regular costs associated
with their type of business.
Potential Costs:
1. Cost of producing advertisements
2. Time expended searching for those willing to advertise
Projected Benefits:
1. Income from the sale of advertisements will sustain the production
of the magazine.
2. Increase in business for those who advertise in the magazine.
Desired Outcome if Implemented:
Magazine will be funded by the money paid for the advertisements.
2.
Inter/Intra-Collegiate Publishing Agreement
Issue: Can an inter-departmental or intra-collegiate agreement be made
where students from technical fields and law students work together
to produce the Studenti?
Problems: It is likely that these programs, if they exist, do not have
the equipment nor the capacity to produce a magazine. As well, there
still is the substantial cost of obtaining the necessary materials to
produce the magazine, ie: paper, ink, etc.
Potential Costs:
1. Materials
2. Cooperation within departments might be difficult to organize
3. Sacrifice in quality of magazine is likely with student production
as opposed to professional production.
Projected Benefits:
1. Labor cost omitted
2. Creates potential for a work/study exchange program
3. Increased cooperation among departments within university/ies
Desired Outcome if Implemented:
Student production of magazine benefits law students as well as those
students involved in the technical production of the magazine by giving
them practical experience in their respective fields.
3. Production Line Changes
Issue: Can changes be made as to the production of the Studenti to reduce
the overall cost to print it?
Problem: Having previously produced such a high-quality magazine, the
students will potentially be aggravated about having to cut out some
of the more elaborate components that give the Studenti its flair.
Potential Costs:
1. Lower quality materials
2. Less issues per year
3. Determining the essential vs. non-essential components to assess
where changes can be made
Projected Benefits:
1. Newspaper-style bulletin is more cost-effective and equally capable
of conveying information.
2. Students can continue to produce the magazine.
Desired Outcome if Implemented:
It will be easier for students to find adequate funding for a cheaper
production.
4.
Outside Donations for Materials/Labor
Issue: Can the Studenti be sustained by soliciting private donors for
materials and labor?
Problem: Finding donors in Kosovo or abroad willing to fund a project
of this type.
Potential Costs:
1. Finding donors
2. Shipment of materials
3. Production/Labor
Projected Benefits:
Considerable portions of the magazine's cost can be alleviated by private
donations.
Desired Outcome if Implemented:
Potentially all or most of the materials essential to the production
of a student magazine can be donated by various private entities. This
would considerably reduce the production cost.
